Let’s talk widths!

Fabric widths can shift ever so slightly from the stated measurements of premium knitting production. We’re often asked by newer makers about the distinction between open‑width and tubular fabrics, so here’s the polished, insider guide.
Open width is fabric in its most expansive form: a single layer, finished with a selvage on each side, typically ranging from 100–170 cm. It’s the canvas‑wide option, ideal for generous pattern layouts and precision cutting.
Tubular fabric is its sculpted counterpart — double‑layered, seamless, and formed as a continuous tube. When measured flat, it usually sits between 35–80 cm, offering a refined, compact width perfect for streamlined silhouettes and minimal‑waste cutting.
Packaging is straightforward: open‑width fabrics under 6 metres are folded to keep shipping costs down, while lengths over 6 metres are rolled onto a pole.
Tubular fabrics are shipped folded in metre lengths or as flat packs. Every order is either packed in the courier’s own protective bags or double‑wrapped in polythene for added security.
We hope this helps when ordering!
